Letters From The Monkey
“Letters From The Monkey”, are those little pieces of paper, napkin scribbling, or back of coaster sketches that one finds in his or her pockets following a session of enjoying someone’s zymurgisitic pursuits. It is only through extensive special education training that I have been able to decipher these often-coded messages from the Monkey.
Much like Elmer P. Dowd’s rabbit, Harvey, my Monkey has followed me the world over and regularly drinks where I do, leaving me his notes. While I have only published a book on Portland, Oregon, I have notes from, Austria, Belgium, Canada, England, France, West and East Germany (yes, the monkey has been at this a long time), Italy, The Netherlands, Switzerland, and throughout the USA.
Over the years I have discovered that while the Monkey is a true aficionado of fine beer and food, his notes are not only difficult to read but lack grammatical consistency. Therefore, any errors or omissions are attributed solely to him.
*** “Letters from the Monkey: Postmark Munchen on the Willamette (Portland Oregon) II” is the definitive guidebook to greater Portland’s 42 breweries (with an additional 4 in Vancouver), 22 Alehouses, and 8 other things beery ALL by public transportation. The just released second edition is bigger but still just $10.00 plus postage. If you live outside the US I will email you with actual postage cost.
The monkey takes great notes! I like the book, it is a perfect companion for any beer lover that is (or will be) in the Portland area.
